Candidates in the running for 2016 IUCN Congress

16 May 2013 | News story

Eight interested parties have responded to IUCN’s call to showcase themselves as the ultimate green venue for hosting the 2016 IUCN World Conservation Congress.

The candidates have expressed their desire to seize this unique opportunity to promote and demonstrate their leadership on global environmental issues and priorities through the profiling of national conservation programmes and activities, as well as their linkages to other sectors of government and the economy.

The eight candidates now have until 12 September 2013 to submit a formal proposal for the 2016 Congress outlining how they will meet the criteria of the Statement of Requirements.

The IUCN Council will take a decision regarding the venue in the first half of 2014.
