Congress Committees

  • The Congress Preparatory Committee of Council is established by IUCN’s Council to provide strategic guidance for the preparations for the Congress. The Committee decides, in consultation with the host country and the Director General, on the scope and nature of the Congress. The Committee also ensures consistency with, and adherence to, IUCN’s Statutes, Regulations and the Rules of Procedure for World Conservation Congresses. It is also active during the Congress, assuming the role of Steering Committee.

At the Congress, there will also be several more Committees to oversee the different Congress aspects:

  • The Resolutions Committee will oversee the overall management of the motions process at the Congress;
  • The Credentials Committee will examine credentials of IUCN Members and will determine the number of votes to be exercised by each delegation;
  • The Finance and Audit Committee of Congress will oversee the submission of the report on the consolidated accounts of IUCN, the financial plan, membership dues and the appointment of the auditors, for the period until the next Congress;
  • The Programme Committee of Congress will assist the Resolutions Committee in the management of motions that amend the IUCN Programme and will oversee the approval process for the Intersessional Programme and Commission mandates;
  • The Governance Committee of Congress will assist the Resolutions Committee in the management of motions with specific reference to governance related motions and will deal with any governance issues raised.
