Today, at the IUCN World Conservation Congress, IRUKA signed a renewal of the agreement to serve as an IUCN Goodwill Ambassador for 2 more years.

IRUKA has served as a Goodwill Ambassador for Japan since 2004.

A signing ceremony took place at the Congress venue in Jeju, South Korea between IRUKA and Julia Marton-Lefevre, IUCN Director General. It was witnessed by Hiro Koike, IUCN Regional Councillor, Akiko Domoto, Former Councillor, Vice President, and Members of the IUCN National Committee of Japan.

As a public figure, and in her role as an IUCN Goodwill Ambassador for Japan, IRUKA will serve as a catalyst in Japan and occasionally in other countries for helping IUCN build public profile and partnerships that will enable IUCN to increase its visibility and generate support for its mission and activities.

During the Congress, IRUKA performed at a Nature+ Concert and gave a closing statement at the REDD HOT DEBATE, stressing that mainstreaming gender in REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) activities is important as women are part of the solution, as agents of change.
