Accreditation for Members
The accreditation area located in the registration area of the ICCJ is open as follows:

Members and observers can submit their statements of credentials using the accreditation system where Members can also change their Head of Delegation and manage their proxy votes. Statements of credentials must be submitted before the World Conservation Congress opens on 6 September at 17:30, Korea Standard Time (UTC/GMT+8).

Air travel
Jeju is one hour away from Seoul by airplane. Most flights usually operate from Gimpo Airport in Seoul, which serves domestic flights, which means that you may have to change airport when travelling through Seoul International Airport. Some flights however also operate directly from Seoul Incheon International Airport. Direct flights are also possible between Jeju and Busan in South Korea, as well as some major cities in Japan and China.

For connections between Seoul International Airport and Gimpo Airport, the most recommended transport is the Airport Limousine Bus. For information and to buy Limousine and Premium Bus tickets, Bus Ticketing Offices are located at the following locations: Exit 4 and 9 (indoors); Exit 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, 13, and 9C (outdoors). A commuter train also runs between the two airports.

Airport
Jeju International Airport is situated 4km from downtown Jeju-si. Free shuttle services are available for all Congress participants for transports between the airport, hotels and the International Convention Centre Jeju (ICC Jeju), from 4 to 16 September. Detailed information about shuttle buses can be found on arrival at the airport, in the hotels and at the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). Congress Information desk will be available at the airport and staff will be here to provide any required support.

Badges
See also “Registration” and “Opening hours”.
Every participant will receive a badge when announcing him or herself at the registration centre upon arrival. Each badge is attributed to one person only and is non-transferable. Participants are kindly asked to wear their badge during all Congress activities and social events. Entry in the Congress venue (ICC Jeju) will not be permitted without a badge. Replacement of lost badges incurs a KRW 60,000 (CHF 50) administrative charge.

Banks and foreign exchange offices
See also “Cash machines/ATM”.
Public banks are normally open from 09:00 am to 16:00 on weekdays. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a bank in the registration centre, open from 09:00 to 16:00 from 4-15 September. The temporary bank will be closed on weekends. US dollars are the easiest to exchange but any major currency is accepted. Major currencies and traveler’s checks can be exchanged into Korean won at the airport, hotels, and at all Korean banks. Credit cards, e.g. VISA, MasterCard, American Express, and Diners Club, are all widely accepted.

Bookstore
Located on the 5th floor of the Congress Venue (ICC Jeju) in the Members’ Lounge area, the IUCN Bookstore is a convenient and congenial area for browsing and discussing IUCN publications. Open to all participants at the Congress, the Bookstore is the dedicated space for consulting and ordering publications and receiving assistance on finding and accessing IUCN Publications. The IUCN Bookstore is open from 9:00 to 21:00 from 7-12 September; from 9:00 to 21:00 on 14 September; and from 9:00 to 15:00 on 15 September. The Bookstore will be closed on 13 September during the excursion day.

Business centre
The Business centre is located on the 2nd floor of the Congress Venue (ICC Jeju). Photocopying and other services will be available in this area on 7-12 and 14-15 September from 8:30 to 19:00.

Bus
See also “Transport”.
Free, fuel-efficient congress shuttle buses are available for participants to commute between hotels and the Congress venue (ICC Jeju), as well as between Jeju International Airport and hotels/ICC Jeju. Public transport in Jeju mostly consists of buses. There is no railway on the island. Buses cover most of the island, with services running around the coast or across the island every 20 minutes approximately. Make sure to have KRW 1,000
notes if you use public buses. From/to the airport there are public shuttle buses (airport limousines) than run every 15 minutes to most of the hotels and the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). It takes around 45 minutes to reach ICC Jeju. Please refer to the transportation guidebook for more details.

Carbon offset booth
Voluntary contribution to offset your carbon footprint can be made at the Carbon Offset Desk inside the 2012 WCC Exhibition, on the 3rd floor of ICC Jeju. The carbon offset fee calculation program will show your carbon emissions from Congress, mainly from transportation and accommodation, and your carbon offset fees. In return for donation, a certificate and a small gift will be provided.

Cash machine/ATM
See also “Banks and foreign exchange offices”, “Credit cards” and “Currency”.
If you have a foreign credit card, you need to find an ATM with a ‘Global’ sign or the logo of your credit card company. ATMs have time restrictions and most only operate between 9am and 10pm. The Temporary ATM will be operated from 08:00 to 20:00, 4 -15 September and will be closed 13 September during the excursion day.

Climate and clothing
See also “Dress code”.
The average temperature in September in Jeju is 23°C (74°F). Clothing should be suitable for a changeable climate. A raincoat or umbrella for occasional showers may be useful. The Northern Pacific brings cooling ocean breezes andmoisture to the atmosphere.

A cloakroom to leave bags and coats is located in the registration area.

Closing ceremonies
The Forum Closing Ceremony will take place on 11 September from 17:00 to 18:30 as part of the World Leaders’ Dialogue “Nature+: Saving nature, why bother?” in the Tamna Hall on the 5th floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). The official Congress Closing will take place on 15 September from 14:30 to 15:30 in Tamna Hall.

Commission offices
Commission offices are located on the 5th floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju), close to the Members’ Lounge.

Community Ma-eul
Co-organised by IUCN, UNDP and partners the Community Ma-eul, features a wide variety of events on indigenous and community issues. It will be located in room 101 on level 1 of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju).

Concert
The Eco Nature+ concert, organised by the Korean Organizing Committee (KOC) and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) will take place on 8 September from 19:30 to 22:00. Amongst other, IUCN Goodwill Ambassadors and the Korean band 2 AM will perform. Shuttle buses from the ICCJ will be available.

Conservation Campus
Anyone who wish to participate in the Conservation campus must be registered and pay an extra fee. If you have not registered prior to Congress and if you are interested in participating, please go to the onsite Registration desks OR Information desk in the Registration area. Sessions are limited to a maximum of 50 participants. All Conservation Campus essions will take place at the Lotte Hotel in Jungmun resort, about 5 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk from the Congress venue (ICCJ). Shuttle buses will be organized every morning and lunch time from the ICCJ.

Credit cards
Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard and American Express). A piece of identification (passport, ID card or driver’s license) is sometimes required upon signature. You should however carry small amounts of cash at all times.

Currency
The currency in Korea is the WON (􀀽). Monetary units are KRW 10,
KRW 50, KRW 100, and KRW 500 coins, and KRW 1,000, KRW 5,000,
KRW 10,000 and KRW 50,000 notes. For higher denominations, negotiable cashier’s checks are used. As an indication and subject to exchange rate fluctuations, KRW 10,000 equals approximately USD 8.50, CHF 8.20 and EUR 7. New bills were introduced in 2006. As a safety precaution, pay attention to the notes handed back to you when making a transaction.

Cycling

The bicycle provides an original and different way to discover your surroundings and of course the CO2 emissions are zero! A free bicycle rental will be available for Congress participants from the ICC Jeju. The Jeju Special Self-Governing province will pay 1 CHF in the Congress Carbon offset fund for each 10 kilometres cycled. Information can be found at the Carbon Offset desk located on the entrance floor (3rd floor) of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju).

Dress code

Dress is informal throughout the entire Congress. IUCN however reserves the right to refuse access when deemed necessary for the comfort and safety of all delegates. Women are advised not to wear high heels for the Opening Ceremony on 6 September as the following Welcome reception by the Host Country will be held in the Botanical Garden (for more information, refer to “Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception”).

Electricity
Korea has a 220-volt AC, 60Hz electrical current. It is also possible to find 110-volt AC. Visitors from certain countries need an adaptor for electric appliances, and an adaptor and transformer to use their 110/125V appliances.

Emergencies and medical care

Emergency medical care is usually supplied by private organizations. Korea’s health care is generally considered good. However, fees are expensive by international standards. Excursions/ecotours
A wide range of One-Day Eco-Tours(Official Eco Tour) are available for delegates during the Congress on the Excursion Day on 13 September. Two-Day Eco-Tours(Special Tour) starting in Jeju and ending in mainland Korea are also available at a discount on 12-13 September and on 16-17 September. Tours desk can be found in the Registration centre.

Exhibition
The exhibition area, with 150 exhibitors, is in a tent on the plaza outside on the 1st floor of the Congress venue (ICCJ). It is open from 7 to15 September, as follows:

First aid is available during Congress opening hours and it is located on the 3rd floor close to the main entrance of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju).

Food and Beverage

A food court is available on the 1st floor as well as outside of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju), close to the registration centre, serving a variety of food and drinks. It will be open from 6 to 15 September between 11:00-14:30 for lunch and 17:00-20:30 for dinner. Food court will be closed on 13 September. Restaurants are also available in the ICC Jeju on Floor 3. They will be open from 08:00 from 5 to 15 September. Several snack bars outside and inside the ICC Jeju will offer small snacks and drinks. Free water will be provided for all Congress participants at different points in the venue.

Internet

Free internet lounges and internet points are available on every floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). Free Wi-Fi will be provided for all participants at the ICC Jeju and the Lotte Hotel where the Conservation Campus will be held. No login is required once onsite. The website www.iucn.org/congress is where you will find the latest news and documents related to the Congress. The Congress Programme is also available online and can be used as a tool to create a personal agenda and to network with other participants.

Interpretation

Simultaneous interpretation into IUCN’s official languages (English, French, Spanish and Korean) will be provided at selected Forum events (Tamna Hall, 104 Yeongju Hall A, Samda Hall, Halla Hall A, B, 201, 202) and for all plenary sessions during the Members’ Assembly. Please return the headsets when leaving the event.

IT Service Desk
There is an IT service desk at the ICC Jeju 5th Floor Lobby. The operating hours are 8:00 – 22:00 from 4 September to 15 September. You can bring all of your IT issues here (including issues with roaming phones and international calling cards).

Language

Jeju people both speak Korean and a native dialect that is endemic to the island. English is spoken by some people, particularly the younger generation. When taking a taxi, it is useful to have the address (hotel, restaurant, etc.) written in, Korean, so the driver can correctly set up the GPS. Some restaurants also provide free pick-ups from the hotels. Check with the front desk at your hotel.

Lost & Found
The Lost & Found is located at the entrance on the 3rd floor of the ICC Jeju, making it very convenient and easy for participants to come and claim items lost during the Congress. Operating hours are 8:00 to 21:00 from 7 September to 15 September.

Maps of the venue are provided on the"Conference Centre" page of this website and at the Main Information Desks located in the front of Registration centre and on the 1st and 3rd floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). Maps of Jeju are available at Tours Desk located in the Registration centre.

Media Centre
Located on the 1st floor of the Congress Centre (ICC Jeju), accredited media will find a lounge, working area, television facilities, media material and an information counter. Fact sheets and media contacts can be found on the website: www.iucn.org/congress. The press conference room is located next door. The Media Centre will be open from the 6-15 September from 08:00 to 22:00.

Members’ Lounge
Located on the 5th floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju), the Members’ Lounge is an area for networking, discussions and obtaining vital membership information, predominantly for IUCN Members, National and Regional Committees of IUCN Members and IUCN Commission members. The Members’ Lounge contains the Membership Hub, where you can access membership services and seek answers to membership-related questions, and also the IUCN Bookstore. The area is open from 09:00 to 21:00 from 7-12 September and on 14 September, and from 09:00 to 15:00 on 15 September. The Lounge will be closed on 13 September during the excursion day.

Membership Services
The IUCN Membership Support Team will be available for the duration of the Congress, mainly based in the Members’ Lounge and Hub, and in the accreditation area. The team comprises colleagues from all regions with experience of membership issues and a range of languages skills, who will do their best to assist!

Mobile phones
Korea has a special network for mobile phones and most foreign mobiles will not work. Only G3 and G4 phones will definitely work. It is possible to rent Korean mobile phones at the IT Service Desk (ICC Jeju 5F).

Motions/Resolutions Desk
For any questions on Motions, please contact the Motions/Resolutions Desk located on the 5th floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju), in front of Tamna Hall. Opening hours: 7-15 September, 08:00-21:00.

Opening ceremony and welcome reception
The Opening Ceremony, organised by the Host Country, will take place on Thursday, 6 September from 16:00 to 17:30 in the Tamna Hall (5th floor) at the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). It will be followed by a Welcome Reception at the Jeju Botanical Garden, located walking distance of the ICC Jeju. For their comfort, women are advised not to wear high heels.

Payment desk
The Payment desk for IUCN staff and suppliers as well as the Host Country DSA/PAYMENT desk for sponsored delegates are located in the Registration centre.

Photos
A photo zone will be set up on the 5th floor of the Congress venue (ICC Jeju).

Pharmacies
Prescription and non-prescription medicine is generally obtainable from pharmacies from Monday to Friday between 9:00 - 20:00 and Saturday from 9:00 to 13:00 or 16:00. There are no 24-hour pharmacies in Jeju. Most of them can be found in Jeju City or Seogwipo, displaying a large green or red cross symbol or  '약국'  in Korean alphabet. Convenience stores and shops in luxury hotel lobbies are open around the clock and carry simple remedies, like aspirin.

Postal services
There are 40 post offices and 21 postal agencies in Jeju. All are open Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm. The Jeju City post office (Tel: 064-722-0084) and the Seogwipo post office (Tel: 064-739-3915) are also open Saturday 9:00 - 13:00. There will be mobile post office located in the Registration centre. It will open from 09:00 to 18:00 from 6 to 14 September and will be closed on weekend and 13 September. The closest post office to the Congress venue operates weekdays, from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. The address is 2087-2 Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju, Korea

Registration

Religious services
The ICC Jeju is equipped with a prayer room at the back of the Halla Hall on 3rd floor (main entrance level) and can be accessed during the Congress opening hours.

Restaurants

Information on restaurants in the Jungmun area and rest of Jeju is available at the Tours desk in the Registration centre. Korean food is known to be excellent, so make sure to taste some of the local dishes. International cuisine is can be easily found too. When taking a taxi, it is useful to have the address of the restaurant written in Korean, so the driver can correctly set up
the GPS. Some restaurants also provide free pick-ups from the hotels. Check with the front desk at your hotel.

Security
Any security problems or concerns should be reported to a uniformed member of staff at the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). Congress Centre security staff will handle any emergency situation and everyone is asked to follow the
instructions announced on the loudspeakers.

Shopping

Shops in Jeju are normally open Monday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00. A few convenience stores are located within or close to the Congress venue (ICC Jeju). A tax-free shop is located on the 1st floor of ICC Jeju.

Smoking
Smoking is prohibited by law in indoor public areas. Smoking is not allowed on flights, buses, trains, subways and in taxis. Please refrain from smoking in the Congress venue (ICC Jeju) at all times. This includes the meeting rooms, exhibition area and registration areas, poster areas, restrooms, snack bars, and within 10 metres of the main entrances and exits of the ICC Jeju.

Smart Congress

For the convenience of the participants of the 2012 World Conservation Congress Jeju, we will provide Galaxy Note devices. These Galaxy Notes will be made available to use from 11:00 to 16:30 on September 7 to September 11 in 1F 104 (Yeongju Hall A), 3F Samda Hall, 3F Halla Hall A, 3F Halla Hall B, and 5F Tamna Hall. Participants may not remove these devices from these locations. Participants can use these smart devices to access the mobile webpage where they will be able to see all presentations.

Tax-Free Shopping
Value-Added Tax (VAT) is levied on most goods and services at the standard 10% rate and usually included in the retail price. You can receive a refund on your VAT if you purchase your goods at a shop with a TAX-FREE SHOPPING sign. Ask for a Global Refund Cheque payment slip at the time of purchase. You can get your refund, within 3 months of purchase, at the Cash Refund Office located at Gate 28 of Seoul Incheon Airport.

Taxis
See also “Transport
Taxis are available 24 hours. They can be easily distinguished from regular cars by their signs on top of the car roof. You can get a taxi at a taxi stand, or hail one on the street by waving at one. One taxi can carry up to four customers at once. Basic fare can be KRW2,200 according to the region. Various surcharges are applied according to the time of day. There is a night charge between midnight and four o’clock in the morning, or when crossing regional boundaries, which may amount to 20 % of the metered fare. Taxi fare from Jeju International Airport to Congress venue (ICC Jeju) is a fixed rate (approximately 30 USD). Taxis can even be rented for about 80 USD for 8 hours, driver included. International driving license is necessary. When taking a taxi, it is useful to have the address of the place you want to go (hotel, restaurant, etc) written in Korean, so the driver can correctly set up the GPS.

Telephone
The country code is 82 and Jeju code is 064. Drop the zero in front of the city/region code when dialing from abroad. Calls can be made using public phone cards, credit card calls and IC cards. Local, long-distance, international and cell-phone can be made. There are four kinds of telephone cards such as KRW 2,000, KRW 3,000, KRW 5,000 and KRW 10,000. Phone cards can be purchased at the IT Service Desk on the 5th Floor of ICC Jeju.

Time zone
South Korea is 8 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). The country does not observe daylight saving time.

Tipping
Service charges are automatically added to hotel and restaurant bills, as well as shops and taxis in Korea, so no further tipping is required. Tipping for an outstanding service is a matter of choice, but is not expected.

Tourist information
Tours Desk is available in the Registration centre at the Congress Venue (ICC Jeju). You can also visit tourist information centres at Jeju International Airport, Jeju-si, Hallasan and in some museums around the island. For tourism information on Jeju and Korea, visit www.visitkorea.or.kr.

Venues
Almost all official Congress events are held at or outside the Congress venue, the ICC Jeju , located at 2700 Jungmun, Seowipo, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, Korea, 697-120. Tel 82-64-735-1000 / Fax 82-64-738-8922, W. http://iccjeju.Café24.com/eng/ .The following events will take place at different venues:

  • The Welcome Reception will take place on 6 September from 18:40 in the Jungmun Botanical Garden about 20 minutes walk from the ICC Jeju. Shuttles will be organized for people requiring special assistance.
  • The K-POP Nature+ concert, organised by the Korean Organizing Committee (KOC) and the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) will take place on 8 September from 19:00 to 21:30 at ICC Jeju.
  • All Conservation campus sessions will take place at the Lotte Hotel in Jungmun resort, about 5min drive from the ICC Jeju or 30min walk. Shuttle buses will be organized every morning and lunch, evening time from the ICC Jeju, leaving at ICC Jeju. The shuttle to ICC Jeju will be connected from WCC official accommodation. Also refer to section “Conservation Campus”.

VIP Lounge
The VIP Lounge is located on the 4th floor of the Congress venue, accessible through the 3rd floor in the Delizia restaurant. This area is only accessible for participants wearing a VIP badge.
